I wrote Losing Me about the moment I realized I had been treating someone else’s comfort like it mattered more than my own identity. I stayed quiet to feel safe, apologized to keep the peace, and called it love even when fear was making every decision. Little by little, I was disappearing inside the relationship while waiting for someone else to prove I was worth staying for.
The song names the pattern without excusing it. Trauma taught me to please what could not care for me and to confuse self-abandonment with devotion. I gave more than I had, built a cage and called it peace, and watched my reflection grow less clear. Even when no one directly asked me to become smaller, I kept paying for love with pieces of myself.
The turning point is choosing truth over temporary comfort. Healing is not always soft; sometimes it is a clean no, a hard goodbye, or the decision to stop breaking just to prove I am kind. I used to fear being left. Now I understand that loneliness cannot cost me as much as abandoning myself ever did. I am not afraid of losing you—I am afraid of losing me.
