The Dance

Love shouldn’t feel
like hide and seek.

Peace shouldn’t feel
like self-defense.

I need someone
who chooses me every day.

I’m stepping out. I’m finding grace. ♡

Behind the song

The story inside it

“It’s not that I’m too much. It’s that I’ve settled for too little.”

I wrote The Dance about a relationship that only felt close when I was leaving. When I reached for connection, he pulled away; when I finally stepped back, he asked me to stay. That push and pull kept us moving, but it never brought us anywhere. I mistook the intensity of the chase for the depth of love.

I kept trying to make myself easier to choose. I explained what I needed, accepted time without presence, and treated touch like proof of commitment. The more distant he became, the more I tried to earn what should have been freely given. Eventually, keeping the peace began to feel like defending myself from the relationship I was trying to save.

The turning point is realizing that I was not too much and I was never unlovable. I had simply settled for too little—almost, halfway, and affection without choice. The final chorus is me stepping out of the pattern, choosing grace over pursuit, and deciding I want a love that chooses me every day.
