Convenience

For when you realize they kept you close because they knew you’d always be there, not because they were truly choosing you.

A gentle map of what this song holds ♡

Emotional question
Did they actually choose me, or did they just know I would always be there?
What you may need to hear

Being someone’s safe place doesn’t automatically mean you were being loved the way you deserved. You’re allowed to stop giving access to someone who only shows up when it benefits them.

Featured lyric
“You didn’t fight for me You just kept access And I confused that With something real”
From the song story

For when you finally see the difference between someone choosing you and someone simply knowing you’ll be there.

Verse 1 I can’t believe I stayed that long Calling it love when it felt so wrong Three years learning how to shrink Just to fit inside your missing link You’d show up when it suited you Late nights, half-truth point of view I called it hope, you called it space But you just needed somewhere safe

Pre-Chorus You didn’t fight for me You just kept access And I confused that With something real

Chorus I was your convenience Never your choice You kept me quiet I gave you a voice You took my heart And gave me crumbs And I kept thinking You were the one But love don’t feel like guessing Or begging to be seen You didn’t break me You just showed me what you’ll never be

Verse 2 Funny how it all makes sense Why you never crossed that fence You said I was “too much” for you But truth is, you just couldn’t Rise up, grow up, be that man Stand beside me, take a stand So you found someone easier Someone who won’t understand

Pre-Chorus You played the part so well Had me doubting my own mind But clarity’s a cold thing When it hits you from behind

Chorus I was your convenience Never your choice You kept me waiting I filled the void You took my love Like it was free But nothing about me Was ever easy

Bridge I wish I never met you Never let you back inside Never gave you access To the softest parts of mine You don’t get to touch me Then pretend you didn’t know What it means to hold a woman You were never gonna grow

Final Chorus I was your convenience But I’m not anymore You don’t get this version You don’t get this door You didn’t lose me You lost your chance And one day you’ll feel it When you understand That love like mine Don’t come twice And you chose easy Over something right

Convenience

For when you realize they kept you close because they knew you’d always be there, not because they were truly choosing you.

Convenience

“Convenience” is about the painful realization that someone repeatedly returning to you doesn't necessarily mean they're choosing you. Sometimes they're choosing what you provide.

I wrote this song after looking back at years of a relationship and finally seeing the pattern differently. For a long time, I interpreted every return as evidence that there had to be something real between us. If he kept coming back, surely that meant he loved me. Surely it meant he couldn't let me go. Eventually, I realized: He didn't fight for me. He kept access to me. And those are two completely different things. I gave him a place where he knew he was loved, understood, forgiven, and welcomed back. I gave him comfort and softness. And because he continued reaching for those things, I kept believing eventually he would reach for me in the same way. But being someone's safe place doesn't automatically make you their choice.

That's where the title “Convenience” comes from. The relationship existed most comfortably when it required very little from him. When I accepted the uncertainty. When I didn't ask where things were going. When I was available without requiring commitment in return. And every time I started asking for something more substantial, It was suddenly "too much pressure.” For a long time, I took that personally. Now I see it differently. Maybe I wasn't asking for too much. Maybe I was finally asking for more than the dynamic was capable of giving me.

The bridge is intentionally harsher because it's the moment grief becomes anger: “I wish I never met you. Never let you back inside. Never gave you access to the softest parts of mine.” It's not really regret over having loved someone. It's grief over how many times I reopened a door after the relationship had already shown me what was waiting behind it.

But the final chorus changes the meaning of the entire song: “I was your convenience, but I'm not anymore.” That's the part that matters most. I can't change what I accepted then. I can change what gets access to me now. And I no longer want to measure love by whether someone comes back. I want to measure it by whether they stay, show up, choose me clearly, and build something with me. Being wanted when it's convenient isn't enough anymore. I want to be chosen when it requires something too.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
