Cry Like A Boy

For when someone finally gets a taste of the same mixed signals, ghosting, and games they once handed out so easily.

Emotional question
Why does it suddenly hurt when they’re the one being treated the way they treated everyone else?
What you may need to hear

Sometimes experiencing the other side of a pattern creates perspective that explanations never could. You don’t have to celebrate someone else’s pain to recognize the irony when they finally understand why the behavior hurt.

Verse 1 You’re sitting there with tears in your eyes, crying over girls who don’t reply. Guess the tables finally turned around, how’s it feel when your heart hits the ground? You only wanted bodies, never souls, now you’re choking on the games you wrote.

Pre-Chorus Oh, you can’t believe she played you like a toy, newsflash darling, you’re just crying like a boy.

Chorus Boys been breaking hearts since we were in diapers, ghosting, lying, making love feel minor. Now the girls are flipping scripts, oh joy you can’t take the heat, but you lit the fire. Karma’s singing louder than your voice, look at you cry, cry, cry like a boy.

Verse 2 You call her cruel, you call her cold, but isn’t that the story you sold? One-night stand, then you disappear, now she’s giving back the same damn fear. She’s not your angel, she’s your mirror, showing you the truth, it’s never been clearer.

Bridge She’s not evil, she’s just even, you can’t stand the taste of your own treatment. You made the rules, now we’re playing, sorry babe, no more saving.

Boys play games, and girls can too, don’t act shocked, we learned from you. Tables turned, enjoy the show, karma always lets you know.

Final Chorus Boys been breaking hearts since we were in diapers, ghosting, lying, making love feel minor. Now the girls are flipping scripts, oh joy you can’t take the heat, but you lit the fire. Karma’s singing louder than your voice, look at you cry, cry, cry like a boy.

Cry like a boy… karma looks good on us, don’t it, boy

Cry Like A Boy

For when someone finally gets a taste of the same mixed signals, ghosting, and games they once handed out so easily.

Cry Like A Boy

“Cry Like a Boy” is a song about accountability, irony, and what happens when someone finally experiences the kind of heartbreak they once handed out so easily.

I wrote this song after thinking about how differently emotional pain can look depending on who’s experiencing it. Someone can spend years ghosting people, keeping things casual, sending mixed signals, or treating hearts like they’re replaceable. But when suddenly they’re the one waiting for a text, wondering why someone disappeared, or realizing they cared more than the other person did, the same behavior feels completely different.

That irony became the heart of the song. The line, “She’s not your angel, she’s your mirror.” captures what I was really trying to say. Sometimes another person doesn’t necessarily teach you something new. They simply hold up a mirror and let you experience your own behavior from the other side.

The title “Cry Like a Boy” is intentionally playful and exaggerated. It flips the stereotype that women are the emotional ones who need to “get over it,” while men are supposed to be unaffected by relationships. The song takes that stereotype, turns it upside down, and asks: What happens when the person who was so comfortable creating emotional chaos suddenly has to sit inside it? It isn't about saying women should start treating people badly, and it isn't really celebrating someone else's heartbreak. It's about perspective. There’s a difference between understanding intellectually that your choices hurt people and finally recognizing what that hurt feels like when you’re standing on the receiving end of it.

That’s why I think of the “karma” in this song less as punishment and more as a mirror. Sometimes accountability arrives through a conversation. Sometimes it arrives through consequences. And sometimes life simply hands you the same script you gave everybody else and says, “Okay. Now read their part.”

You don’t have to carry it alone.
