Fine Print

For when you still miss them and still know why you left, and you’re finally learning neither feeling has to cancel the other.

A gentle map of what this song holds ♡

Emotional question
Can I still miss someone and know leaving them was the right decision for me?
What you may need to hear

Missing someone doesn’t mean you made the wrong choice by leaving. You can love someone and feel angry about how they treated you, understand their wounds and still have boundaries, or remember what was good without minimizing what hurt. Conflicting feelings can coexist without requiring you to act on either one.

Featured lyric
“I can miss you and still be angry, I can ache and still walk away”
From the song story

For when you stop forcing yourself to choose between missing them and remembering why you had to leave.

Verse 1 I laid my cards face-up on the table, every truth, every trembling word. You built your walls out of silence, I built myself from being unheard.

Pre-Chorus I asked if it was fear or selfishness, you just let the question burn in the dark. But healing taught me both can exist, missing you and hating the mark.

Chorus I can miss you and still be angry, I can ache and still walk away. Both can live inside my body, they don’t cancel, they just stay. I wanted AVR like oxygen acknowledge, validate, reassure. But your fine print said “don’t feel too much,” and I can’t sign that anymore.

Verse 2 You called my love “free feelings,” like they were cheap, disposable things. But clarity isn’t free, it’s earned and your silence broke the strings.

Bridge One day, I’ll find it simple, to hold love without the bruise. But tonight I’m holding both of us the missing and the truth.

Chorus I can miss you and still be angry, I can ache and still walk away…

Outro So if you ask what the fine print was, it’s what I’ve needed all along: don’t dismiss me, don’t betray me, just hear me, and prove me wrong.

Fine Print

“Fine Print” is about learning that two conflicting feelings can be true at the same time. I can miss someone and still be angry with them. I can remember the good and still acknowledge the damage. I can understand why someone behaved the way they did without deciding that makes the behavior okay. And I can love someone while still choosing to leave.

For a long time, I felt like healing required me to pick one version of the story. Either I loved him or I was angry. Either he was afraid or he was selfish. Either the relationship mattered or it hurt me. But healing taught me that life is rarely that simple. Both can exist.

The line, “I can miss you and still be angry, I can ache and still walk away,” became the heart of this song because it gave me permission to stop fighting my own emotions.Missing someone doesn't mean I made the wrong decision. Anger doesn't erase love. Understanding someone's behavior doesn't mean I have to excuse it. And walking away doesn't mean none of it mattered.

For me, the title “Fine Print” represents all the conditions I slowly realized I had attached to being loved. Don't need too much. Don't feel too deeply. Don't ask too many questions. Don't make someone else's distance uncomfortable for them. I spent too long signing pieces of myself away to those conditions because I thought keeping the relationship mattered more than questioning what it required me to become.

The AVR part of the song, acknowledge, validate, reassure, represents how simple so much of what I needed actually felt to me. I wasn't asking someone to fix every emotion I had. I wanted my feelings acknowledged instead of dismissed. I wanted my experience validated instead of immediately argued with. And when the relationship felt uncertain, I wanted reassurance that helped me understand where I stood. I didn't need perfection. I needed emotional participation. And eventually I realized that if being loved required me to become less emotional, less curious, less expressive, or less honest about what I needed, then there was fine print attached to that love that I could no longer agree to.

That's what the ending represents. I'm not signing myself away anymore. I don't need to become less emotional to be easier to love. I need relationships where my emotions are safe enough to exist. And maybe healing isn't choosing between missing someone and knowing they weren't right for me. Maybe it's being able to say: I miss you. I'm angry. I understand you. I still choose to leave. And finally allowing every one of those sentences to be true at the same time.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
