Gaslight Glow

For when they made you question what you could already feel, until you trusted their version of reality more than your own.

A gentle map of what this song holds ♡

Emotional question
How do I trust myself again after someone made me question what I knew was happening?
What you may need to hear

Repeatedly being told that what you notice, feel, or remember isn’t real can make you doubt your own perception. Rebuilding trust in yourself doesn’t require proving every detail. You’re allowed to listen to your instincts again.

Featured lyric
“Told me shadows were the sun, ’Til my vision came undone”
From the song story

For when you spent so long being told your instincts were wrong that seeing the truth meant learning to trust yourself all over again.

Verse 1 You said it’s all in my head Guess my heartbeat lied instead I was reading the signs in the silence You were busy pulling strings behind it Every “I’m fine” was a stone in my chest I was drowning while you played your chess You knew I’d swallow the words to keep peace While you wrote your goodbye under the sheets

Pre-Chorus You lit the match, then called it a spark Made me question my own heart Told me shadows were the sun ’Til my vision came undone

Chorus Now I’m burning in your gaslight glow Every truth you twisted starts to show You said love should be easy, guess you meant for you Left me tangled in the lies I thought were true Now your fire’s out, but the smoke still knows I’m still choking on your gaslight glow

Verse 2 You kissed me the night before you let go Like a thief with a key to a home you don’t own You played god with my trust, called it care But you were gone long before you weren’t there And every time I reached for your hand You were halfway gone, halfway a man But I stayed, praying for the day you’d choose Turns out all you were choosing was how I’d lose

Bridge You said “respect” while you lied through your teeth Said you were in, but your ghost was with me And I hate that my love gave you a stage To rehearse your goodbye in a velvet cage

Breakdown Every no was a yes in disguise Every truth I held up, you denied But I’m done playing blind for your show Go keep your gaslight glow

Final Chorus ’Cause I’m done burning in your gaslight glow Your shadows can’t follow where I go Love should be easy, but not at my expense I’m taking back my heart, I’m taking back my sense Now your fire’s out, and the smoke will know I won’t choke on your gaslight glow

Gaslight Glow

For when they made you question what you could already feel, until you trusted their version of reality more than your own.

Gaslight Glow

“Gaslight Glow” is about what happens when someone repeatedly tells you that what you're sensing isn't real, until you start trusting their version of reality more than your own.

I wrote this song about the aftermath of constantly being told things were fine when my body was telling me they weren't. I noticed the distance. I noticed the silence. I noticed when words and actions stopped matching. But instead of trusting those signals, I kept accepting reassurance because believing him felt less painful than believing what my intuition was trying to tell me.

That's where the title “Gaslight Glow” comes from. Gaslighting can create this strange false light around a relationship. You're technically looking directly at what's happening, but everything has been reframed so many times that you can't trust what you're seeing anymore.

The line, “You told me shadows were the sun 'til my vision came undone,” became the heart of this song. Because eventually the damage wasn't only that I didn't trust him. I stopped trusting me. I questioned whether I was overthinking. Whether I was too sensitive. Whether my expectations were unreasonable. Whether the things hurting me were actually happening the way I remembered them. And that's why the smoke imagery matters too. Even after the relationship ends and the “fire” is gone, confusion can linger.

“Your fire's out, but the smoke still knows.” You can leave the person and still carry the effects of constantly having your perception challenged. You can know the truth now and still find yourself second-guessing what you see, feel, and remember.

The final chorus is the part that matters most to me: “I'm taking back my heart, I'm taking back my sense.” Healing isn't only about getting away from someone who distorted my reality. It's about rebuilding trust in my own. I don't need someone else to confirm what my body knows. I don't need permission to believe my own experience. And I don't have to keep standing in someone else's light trying to figure out whether what I'm seeing is real. I'm finally trusting my own eyes again.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
