Emotional question
When did being afraid of losing them turn into abandoning myself to keep them?
What you may need to hear

Wanting to preserve connection shouldn’t require disappearing inside it. You can care deeply about someone and still decide that keeping them isn’t worth losing your voice, boundaries, or sense of self.

[Verse 1] I kept you happy just to feel safe, Bit my tongue till it forgot how to taste. I called it love when it was fear, And every “sorry” pulled me near. I thought if I stayed, you’d see my worth, But I kept vanishing, line by line, first.

[Pre-Chorus] I let you take what I couldn’t lose, ’Cause trauma taught me that’s what love do. But I can’t bleed to keep you calm, I can’t disappear to prove I belong.

[Chorus] I’m done being afraid of losing you, When I’ve been losing me. I built a cage and called it peace, Letting fear decide who I could be. Healing’s not soft l it’s saying no. It’s walking away when I want to stay close. I used to chase the ones who’d leave, Now I’m scared of losing me.

[Verse 2] I broke my back to make you feel tall, Said it was love, but it was withdrawal. Every time I gave more than I had, You called it sweet , I called it sad. You never asked me to stay that way, But you never stopped me when I paid.

[Pre-Chorus] So I learned to please what wouldn’t care, To earn the love that wasn’t there. But every time I disappeared, My reflection got less clear.

[Chorus] I’m done being afraid of losing you, When I’ve been losing me. I built a cage and called it peace, Letting fear decide who I could be. Healing’s not soft , it’s saying no. It’s walking away when I want to stay close. I used to chase the ones who’d leave, Now I’m scared of losing me.

[Bridge] You can keep your comfort, I’ll take the truth. You were never worth what I put me through. Love shouldn’t cost my peace of mind, I’m not breaking just to prove I’m kind.

[Final Chorus / Outro] I’m not afraid of losing you I’m afraid of losing me. Every time I stay for less, I teach my heart it’s all it’ll ever be. Healing’s not easy, but it’s clean. And I’m not scared of lonely anymore I’m scared of losing me.

Losing Me

For when you realize your fear of losing them has been costing you pieces of yourself.

Losing Me

" Losing Me ", is about realizing that my fear of abandonment had slowly turned into something I didn’t recognize at first: self-abandonment. For a long time, losing someone felt like the worst possible outcome. So when I cared about someone, I became really good at adjusting myself to keep the connection intact. I could stay quiet when something hurt, over-understand behavior that wasn’t meeting my needs, apologize to restore peace, and convince myself that being patient was the same thing as being loving. I thought I was fighting for the relationship. Looking back, sometimes I was fighting against myself.

The line, “I’m done being afraid of losing you When I’ve been losing me.” became the heart of this song. Because eventually I had to ask myself what I was actually protecting. If keeping someone required me to silence my needs, ignore my boundaries, tolerate less than I wanted, or constantly worry that being honest might make them leave, then I wasn’t creating security. I was slowly disappearing to prevent abandonment. And I think that’s why the line “I built a cage and called it peace” matters so much to me. There were times I thought a relationship was peaceful simply because there wasn’t conflict. But sometimes there wasn’t conflict because I was swallowing what I actually felt. Peace that depends on one person becoming smaller isn’t the kind of peace I want anymore.

This song is also about understanding why that pattern existed without using that understanding to keep repeating it. When you’re deeply afraid of losing connection, pleasing, accommodating, forgiving, and over-giving can feel safer than risking someone walking away. But somewhere along the way, I realized I had spent so much energy asking, “What if I lose them?” that I wasn’t asking the equally important question: “What is staying costing me?”

The final chorus is the turning point. I’m not saying I’ll never be afraid of losing someone again. I love deeply, and loss will probably always hurt. The difference is that I no longer want fear to decide how much of myself I’m willing to sacrifice to keep someone. Healing, for me, is learning that I can love someone without abandoning myself. I can be compassionate without betraying my own needs. I can say no. I can leave something I still wish could work. I can tolerate the loneliness that sometimes comes with choosing myself. Because being left may hurt. But I don’t want to leave myself behind just to prevent it.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
