Losing You Either Way

For when staying connected feels like losing yourself, but letting go feels like losing a part of yourself too.

Emotional question
Why does letting go feel unbearable when I already know holding on is hurting me?
What you may need to hear

Your mind can accept that a relationship is over before your attachment has adjusted to the loss. Missing someone, feeling angry with them, wanting distance, and wanting closeness can all coexist. Conflicting feelings don't mean you made the wrong decision.

Featured lyric
“If I let go, I lose you If I hold on, I lose myself Tell me how to choose”
From the song story

For when your mind knows the relationship needs to end, but your attachment hasn't figured out how to lose the person without feeling like it's losing part of you too.

My head says this is over My heart didn't get the note I try to sleep, but every thought Still leads me where you go I swear I'm fine until I'm not Every silence says your name Every room still sounds like you Your laughter echoing the same

Pre-Chorus I keep telling myself I'm fine But my body's still stuck in time I tried to cut the cord clean But it just cut into me

Chorus Thate you I love you I don't know how both can stay I push you away Then I break when you don't chase It feels like we broke up again Just from not seeing your face I miss your presence, our late-night laughs and I don't know how to live with that If I hold on, I lose myself If I let go, I lose everything I'm losing either way

Verse 2 I said maybe we could be friends Like that wouldn't tear me apart But I know the day you love someone new I disappear from your heart So I'm losing you either way Slow bleed or sudden erase I'm trying so hard to detach But my mind just keeps you on replay

Pre-Chorus I lie awake, replaying things I still don't know how to let go Distance was supposed to heal But it just made the silence grow

Chorus I hate you I love you I don't know how to let you go I miss your presence The way the silence felt like home I don't know if you were my best friend Or the love I couldn't save If I stay, I'm breaking slowly If I leave, I feel erased I'm losing either way

Pre-Bridge I replay everything we said Every almost, every edge I spiral hard, I overthink Like maybe if I breathe you'll blink

Bridge I reach for space, then feel the ache I pull away, then feel the pain I don't know how to stop loving you Without erasing myself the same I hate that I'm still here Stuck between hope and fear Trying not to text your name Trying not to feel insane I hate that loving you Feels like something wired in my brain

Break If I let go, I lose you If I hold on, I lose myself Tell me how to choose

Final Chorus I hate you, I love you I wish one would finally die I'm tired of living in between Where every night feels like goodbye I miss your laugh, your gravity You living rent-free in my brain I thought time would make this easier But it just keeps rearranging the pain

Outro I don't know how to leave Without losing me So I sit here Still here Loving you

Losing You Either Way

For when staying connected feels like losing yourself, but letting go feels like losing a part of yourself too.

Losing You Either Way

I wrote Losing You Either Way about that impossible stage of letting go where every option feels like a different kind of loss.

Staying connected meant keeping the attachment alive. Walking away meant losing someone who had become part of my everyday life, not just romantically, but as someone I laughed with, talked to, and instinctively reached for.

I even tried convincing myself we could just be friends, but I knew there would eventually be a day when he loved someone else, and I’d have to lose him all over again. That’s what made detaching feel impossible. My mind understood why I needed to let go, while my body and heart were still reaching for what felt familiar.

This song lives in that uncomfortable middle. Sometimes healing doesn’t initially feel like choosing yourself. Sometimes it just feels like choosing which loss you can survive.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
