Right Feels Wrong

For when someone finally gives you the consistency you always wanted, but your body is still waiting for the part where it disappears.

Emotional question
Why does healthy love feel wrong when it’s exactly what I always said I wanted?
What you may need to hear

Something unfamiliar can feel activating even when it’s healthy. If your relationships have taught you to expect uncertainty, consistency may take time to trust. You don't have to force yourself to feel safe instantly, and you don't have to treat every uncomfortable feeling as proof that something is wrong.

Featured lyric
“Right feels wrong, ’cause wrong’s where I learned to breathe”
From the song story

For when safe love finally arrives and you realize healing isn’t only learning what to leave, it’s learning how not to run from what you always wanted.

VERSE 1 You text back, you show up, you remember what I say. You don't disappear for three weeks then act like nothing's changed. You look at me like I'm not too much, not a chore, not a test to pass and all the parts of me that prayed for this are suddenly wanting to crash.

PRE-CHORUS I should feel calm in your orbit, but my chest is tight instead. My heart's been trained on hurricanes, and you're just... clear blue sky in my bed.

CHORUS Why does right feel wrong in my body? Why does safety make me shake? You're everything I said I wanted, and I'm terrified it's not a fake. I'm used to begging for attention, reading silence like a psalm you hold my hand with no conditions, and my nerves can't stay calm. Right feels wrong, 'cause wrong's where I learned to breathe. But I don't wanna lose you just because you don't leave.

VERSE 2 I used to chase the ones who turned away, thought if I proved myself they'd stay. Confusing butterflies with warning signs, calling panic "love" to keep the line. With you there's no reward for self-betrayal, no prize for setting myself on fire. You just ask me to be here, be real no performance, no empire.

PRE-CHORUS Part of me wants to sabotage, pick you apart 'til you fit my past. But something softer in my bones is begging me to make this last.

CHORUS Why does right feel wrong in my body? Why does kindness feel like risk?

You're not the storm I'm built for, you're the home I always missed. I'm used to walking on a tightrope, calling terror "chemistry." You offer solid ground instead, and my fear calls it a mystery. Right feels wrong, but I'm tired of my old script. Maybe what I call "boring" is what safety really is.

BRIDGE So if I flinch when you move closer, it's not you I'm pushing from it's every room where I was punished for needing anyone. If I ask for space when you're just loving me, don't take it as goodbye- I'm just trying to teach my nervous system that this time, I don't have to die.

FINAL CHORUS Right still feels wrong in my body, but I'm learning not to run. Let my shaking be the evidence that something new's begun. I'm choosing you on purpose, even when my pulse won't slow - 'cause I'm done mistaking fireworks for somewhere safe to grow. Right feels wrong, but I'm staying anyway. Maybe one day my body will call this love "home" and stay.

Right Feels Wrong

“Right Feels Wrong” is about something I never expected healing to involve: learning how to tolerate the very kind of love I spent years saying I wanted. I thought recognizing unhealthy relationships would be the hard part. See the red flags. Stop chasing unavailable people. Learn my worth. Choose differently. Simple enough on paper. Then something healthier shows up. Someone communicates. They remember things I say. They don't disappear and return whenever it's convenient. I don't have to perform for affection or decode silence to figure out where I stand. And instead of my entire body immediately saying, Finally, sometimes another reaction appears: Run.

That's where this song came from. The line, “Right feels wrong, ’Cause wrong’s where I learned to breathe.” became the heart of it. If your body has spent years learning the rhythm of uncertainty, you get very good at functioning inside it. You know what to do when someone pulls away. You know how to chase. You know how to analyze. You know how to wait. You know how to earn the next moment of closeness. Then someone comes along who doesn't require any of that. There is no puzzle. And strangely, not having a puzzle can become its own kind of discomfort. Part of me can start looking for what's wrong. Picking apart little things. Wondering whether calm means there isn't chemistry. Feeling crowded by closeness I previously begged other people to give me.

That's why this song isn't really about whether a particular person is “right.” It's about learning not to automatically interpret activation as attraction and unfamiliarity as incompatibility. Healthy doesn't mean I have to choose someone I'm not attracted to or ignore genuine concerns. It means I want to become curious about why I'm uncomfortable before deciding the discomfort means I should run. Maybe my body isn't always saying, This person is wrong. Sometimes it may be saying: I don't know this kind of love yet. And that changes everything.

The final chorus doesn't say the fear disappears. That's important. “Right still feels wrong in my body But I’m learning not to run.” That's the healing. Not forcing myself to feel something I don't. Not ignoring intuition. Just learning the difference between intuition warning me about danger and an old protective pattern reacting to something unfamiliar. Maybe safety doesn't immediately feel like home when home used to mean something different. But I can learn a new definition. And maybe one day I won't have to remind my body that steady love is safe. Maybe it'll recognize it on its own.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
