A gentle map of what this song holds ♡

Emotional question
How can someone come back into my life and still not actually choose me?
What you may need to hear

Someone wanting access to you doesn’t mean they’re ready to love you. You’re allowed to require commitment, repair, and honesty before letting someone back in.

Featured lyric
“You don’t miss me, you miss access Miss the version I let you have”
From the song story

For when they came back and you realized returning to you wasn’t the same as choosing you.

Verse 1 You didn’t say you missed me You just asked if I was home Like I’m somewhere you can come to When you don’t wanna be alone You came back like it was easy Like I’d still be on your side Didn’t ask me if I’m healing Didn’t ask what you broke inside No “what are we,” no “where we’re going” No “I hurt you,” no repair Just slipped right into my life again Like you still belonged there No apologies, no effort No intention, no plan Just your hands around my body Like that’s all you understand And I knew it in the silence In the way you didn’t speak You weren’t here to rebuild anything You were here because I’m open

Pre-Chorus How do you come back into my bed But not into my life? How do you hold me like I’m yours But never once decide? You didn’t even try You didn’t even try

Chorus You came back wrong Not to love me, just to stay close Keep me in your reach While you gave yourself to someone else You came back wrong Like I wouldn’t see it through Like I wouldn’t notice You were never choosing me, but you

Chorus You came back wrong Not a man, just passing through Looking for a version of me That asked less from you

Verse 2 I was gentle, I was patient Held your chaos like it was mine You were used to being fought with I just tried to read your mind Put your feelings over everything Every time you pulled away Made excuses for your distance Called it space instead of pain I made room for all your silence Filled the gaps you never could Loved you in the ways you needed Even when it hurt me more

Pre-Chorus And that says more about your limits Than it ever did about me and you I was never hard to love You were just scared of having to

Chorus You came back wrong Not a man, just passing through Looking for a version of me That asked less from you You came back wrong Not to love me, just to stay close Keep me in your reach While you gave yourself to someone else You came back wrong Like I wouldn’t see it through Like I wouldn’t notice You were never choosing me, but you

Bridge You don’t miss me, you miss access Miss the version I let you have Miss the nights I didn’t question Why you only loved me halfway back And I don’t hate you, I just see you Clearer than I did before You didn’t lose me to another You just couldn’t be what I was worth

You kept me close enough to have me Far enough you didn’t have to choose Called it love, but never held me Only came when it was good for you Said you cared but couldn’t show it Said you tried but never did You wanted me without the weight of Actually being mine to begin with You said don’t go, but wouldn’t stay Said you felt pressure when I’d say “I deserve more than in-between” You heard it… but you didn’t mean You didn’t want to see me move on But wouldn’t give me something real So you called me spiteful, just to Hide the way you couldn’t deal

Chorus But you came back like you chose me Like I was finally the one But you just knew I’d still be waiting Knew I’d never really run You came back soft and familiar Like you’d finally become him But you didn’t come to love me You came back ’cause you knew I’d choose you again

Final Chorus You came back into my bed But never into my life Held me like I was yours But couldn’t once decide You came back wrong And I won’t make that mistake twice You don’t get my body You don’t get my life You came back wrong And now I see it clear You didn’t break my heart You just don’t belong here You kept me close enough to have me But never close enough to choose And that says more about your limits Than it ever did about me and you You said you cared, yeah, I believe you Just not enough to follow through And I was never hard to love You were just scared of having to

Outro Close enough to touch Never close enough to stay I stopped reaching out When you kept pulling away How do you come back into my bed But not into my life? How do you hold me like I’m yours But never once decide? You didn’t even try You didn’t even try

You Didn't Even Try

For when they came back wanting access to you, but still weren’t willing to choose you.

You Didn't Even Try

"You Didn't Even Try" is about realizing that not everyone who comes back is coming back to love you. Sometimes they come back because they miss the comfort you gave them. They miss having access to your kindness, your body, your attention, and the version of you that was always willing to understand them. But that's not the same as choosing you.

I wrote this song after recognizing that someone can return without ever intending to rebuild what they broke. They can say all the familiar things, slip back into old routines, and make it feel like you're getting another chance, when really, they're just picking up the parts of the relationship that benefited them. The hardest realization wasn't that he came back. It was understanding that he came back without honesty, without accountability, and without any intention of creating a real future together. He didn't ask how I'd been healing. He didn't acknowledge the pain he'd caused. He didn't come back to repair what was broken. He came back because he knew I'd always made room for him.

This song is about learning that familiarity isn't commitment, and closeness isn't the same as being chosen. The line, "How do you come back into my bed, but not into my life?" captures the heart of the song. It's about realizing someone wanted intimacy without responsibility, comfort without commitment, and access without accountability. The ending isn't about anger. It's about clarity. Because once I understood the difference between someone missing me and someone choosing me, I stopped confusing the two.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
