For when you realize they kept you close enough to meet their need for connection, but never close enough to truly choose you.

A gentle map of what this song holds ♡

Emotional question
Did they really want me, or did they just not want to be without someone there?
What you may need to hear

Being important to someone and being intentionally chosen by them aren't always the same thing. Someone may value the comfort or connection you provide while still being unable or unwilling to offer the relationship you need. That difference isn't a reflection of your worth.

Featured lyric
“I was never your home, just a room you passed through. Safe till I asked if you felt it too.”
From the song story

For when you realize they loved having somewhere soft to land more than they loved building somewhere permanent with you.

You liked me loud, till I asked you to listen You pulled me in deep, then blurred the vision When I asked for real connection you made it feel like a curse Left me alone while you fed on the worst. You called it "just a joke" when you crossed the line. you said “chill, I’m only playing” while gaslighting my mind. You’d pull me in, breathe me in, act like I was your world. Then disappear in silence, scrolling pics of other girls I’d open up, you’d shut me down. You’d laugh while I drowned

[Pre-Chorus] You wanted chaos, I gave you care . But safe love, for you, was too much to bear

[Chorus] I was your placeholder, never your choice . You kissed me with silence and spoke with no voice. You needed control, so you pushed just to pull I, was never enough, just convenient to hold You mistook a heart for a hole to fill , And left me wondering if any of it was real

[Verse 2] You flirted with strangers, chasing fake highs . While I sat in the dark, reading your lies . Said “you’re my girl,” but it felt like a game .You’d praise me in private, in public, shame . My stories? Too deep. My pain? “Too much.”
You mocked what I felt, made light of my trust . It wasn’t that I was broken, You just liked me silent and open.

[Pre-Chorus 2] You said we lost the fire, I say you blew it out . Guess peace feels boring when you thrive in doubt . But maybe you run when the love feels strong You can’t hold love when you fear what’s real.

[Chorus 2] I was your placeholder, your back-pocket plan . A body for comfort, a fan in the stands . You dressed me in silence, wore me in shame . Then dropped me like baggage and dodged the blame I was your calm until you felt confined Something to hold when you needed time

[Bridge] I was never your home, just a room you passed through. Safe till I asked if you felt it too. You hid in my love, like it made you brave. But the second it cracked, I was what you gave away . I was your calm until you felt confined Something to hold when you needed time . I was just your mirror, cracked from the start . Used to shield you, then torn apart

[Final Chorus] I was your placeholder, not your forever . But I’ll never shrink again for someone’s temper . You’ll scroll through lives and chase the thrill,
But I’ll find someone who chooses me still . You’ll miss the heart you let decay , While I rise from the games you used to play You never held me, just held control ., But I’m done being half-loved , I’m taking back my soul

[Outro] So keep your sarcasm, keep your feed. I was never yours , you just liked watching me bleed. But now I see it clear, no more delay You were just a storm I outlived today

Placeholder

"Placeholder" is about realizing you were never truly being chosen, you were being kept. I wrote this song because there's a difference between someone loving you and someone liking the comfort, attention, and security you provide. For a long time, I confused the two. I believed that because someone kept coming back, they must have cared deeply. Eventually, I realized they weren't coming back because they wanted to build a future. They were coming back because they didn't want to lose access.

The line, "I was your placeholder, never your choice," became the heart of this song. Because that's what it felt like. I was good enough to comfort them, support them, listen to them, and love them, but never enough to be fully claimed. I was hidden when it was convenient, praised in private but minimized in public, and given just enough affection to keep hoping while never receiving the consistency that real love requires.

This song is also about emotional inconsistency. The push and pull. The sarcasm that replaced accountability. The way someone can make you feel like you're asking for too much when all you're asking for is honesty, presence, and respect. For a long time, I wondered why I wasn't enough. Healing taught me a different question. Why was I trying so hard to earn a place in someone's life when they had already decided to keep me on the sidelines? The ending is where everything changes. I stopped seeing myself as someone's placeholder. I started seeing myself as someone who deserved to be chosen without hesitation. Because real love doesn't keep you in the wings while it searches for something else. It steps fully onto the stage with you.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
