Emotional question
Why do I keep giving someone another chance when I already know how this ends?
What you may need to hear

Going back doesn’t mean you failed to move on. Sometimes another chance gives you the clarity you couldn’t get the first time.

Verse 1 I'm back in your arms, but it feels like a rerun Same couch, same late nights, same walls I can't outrun I told myself "this time he'll show up, he'll fight" But I'm still the only one proving I'm right Your eyes say "I miss you" but your hands feel unsure Your love's a locked door I keep opening for I wanted to believe that comfort was home But familiar isn't safe when you're still alone

Pre-Chorus Every time I follow my heart, I lose my mind Every time I give you a chance, you give me half the signs

Chorus Second chances shouldn't feel like begging Shouldn't feel like praying someone will stay If you wanted me, you'd make it known Not leave me guessing every day I deserve someone who loves out loud, no proof to chase Someone who'd never let me wonder if I'm in first place So why am I still here, breaking my own rules? Second chances shouldn't feel like this

Verse 2 I keep telling myself, "maybe this time's the cure" But my scars know better, they've seen this before Hope is a habit I can't quit cold You're the wrong fairytale I keep retelling as gold You say "don't call me bro," you don't want me to roam But you don't build a future, you just visit my home I've got a heart that forgives, but a brain that knows Every time I come back, it's just the same closed door

Pre-Chorus Every time I follow my heart, I lose my mind Every time I give you a chance, you give me half the signs

Chorus Second chances shouldn't feel like begging Shouldn't feel like praying someone will stay If you wanted me, you'd make it known Not leave me guessing every day I deserve someone who loves out loud, no proof to chase Someone who'd never let me wonder if l'm in first place So why am I still here, breaking my own rules? Second chances shouldn't feel like this

Bridge

Maybe somewhere there's a heart That beats steady, no stop-start Someone who doesn't make me question if I'm enough Maybe someday I'll believe I'm worth a love that's clear and free Not a ghost of hope I keep waking up to

Final Chorus Second chances shouldn't feel like begging Shouldn't feel like waiting for someone to change If you wanted me, you'd hold me close Not keep me dancing at the edge of the stage I deserve someone who loves out loud, no proof to chase Who'd never let me wonder if I'm in first place So I'm walking away, breaking my own chains Second chances shouldn't feel like this

Second Chances Shouldn’t Feel Like This

Second Chances Shouldn’t Feel Like This

I wrote Second Chances Shouldn’t Feel Like This about going back because I genuinely wanted to believe that another chance could create a different ending.

There was comfort in being together again. It was familiar, and part of me wanted familiarity to mean we belonged together. I kept thinking maybe this time he would show up differently, choose me clearly, or finally give me the certainty I had spent so long waiting for.

But instead of feeling relieved to have another chance, I found myself asking the same questions again. That was the realization behind this song: a second chance should give you new evidence, not send you searching for the same answers.

Going back wasn’t my failure. In some ways, I needed to go back to finally see that I wasn’t walking away from something that might become what I needed. I was walking away because I finally believed I deserved something that already was.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
