The Cycle

For when the cycle kept pulling you back in until you finally stopped calling control, confusion, and pain “love.”

A gentle map of what this song holds ♡

Emotional question
Why did I keep getting pulled back in after I already knew how much it hurt?
What you may need to hear

Repeated cycles of hurt, relief, promises, and reconnection can make leaving complicated. Recognizing the pattern doesn’t mean you should have seen it sooner. It means you can finally stop treating the next good moment as proof that the cycle has changed.

Featured lyric
“You break me, then pull me back in Say it’s over, then beg me to stay Swear you’ll change, then push me away”
From the song story

For when every painful ending was followed by just enough hope to pull you back into the same cycle again.

You showed up like a dream in disguise With pretty lies dressed up as love in your eyes Built me up on a throne of gold Then blamed me when it cracked and I lost hold Told me I was too much, then not enough Spun me dizzy just to call it “tough love” I kept shrinking to keep your peace You fed me silence and called it “release”

[Pre-Chorus] And I kept chasing crumbs of grace While you erased me, face by face You called it care, I called it pain You left me crying in the rain

[Chorus] It's the cycle, the spin You break me, then pull me back in Say it's over, then beg me to stay Swear you'll change, then push me away Took my heart, then made it a game Made me feel like I’m the one to blame But your love was just control in disguise With a smile that lied And eyes that never cried

[Verse 2] You turned my voice into static noise Made guilt a weapon, silence a ploy Said I was “paranoid,” said I “misremembered” Gaslit the fire and blamed me for embers You picked a fight when I found joy Cut me off like I was just noise Made me need you just to breathe Then said I was “crazy” when I tried to leave

[Pre-Chorus] You painted pain in pastel light And made me beg to be treated right But I got sick of being small Now I see it all

[Bridge] You never held me when I broke Just watched me drown under your smoke I learned to call abuse “okay” Until my soul finally walked away

[Breakdown You crushed my spirit with neglect Made me forget self-respect But I'm not your puppet, not your prey I found my worth in walking away

[Final Chorus ] No more cycle, no more spin I’m not letting you pull me in Keep your chaos, keep your games I’m burning down your house of shame Took my tears, but not my flame You’ll never hurt me the same Your love was poison, sweet and sly But I survived. I survived.

The Cycle

For when the cycle kept pulling you back in until you finally stopped calling control, confusion, and pain “love.”

The Cycle

“The Cycle” is about finally recognizing that what I kept calling love was actually a pattern I had been conditioned to survive. I wrote this song about the push and pull that kept me emotionally trapped: being hurt, blamed, pulled away from, and then given just enough affection or hope to make me stay. Every time things fell apart, I believed the promise that this time would be different. So I kept going around the same circle.

The line, “You break me, then pull me back in,” became the heart of this song because that's what made the relationship so confusing. The painful moments didn't exist separately from the loving ones. They were intertwined. There was hurt, then hope. Distance, then closeness. Blame, then reassurance. And eventually I became more focused on getting back to the good version of the relationship than asking myself why I had to keep surviving the bad one. I also started shrinking. I questioned my memory. I questioned whether I was too sensitive. I explained away behavior that hurt me because admitting what was happening felt harder than believing things could change.

The line “I learned to call abuse ‘okay’” represents that realization. When something happens gradually, your definition of normal can move with it. Things you once would've immediately recognized as unacceptable become things you tolerate, explain, forgive, and eventually expect. That's why leaving isn't always as simple as recognizing that something is unhealthy. Sometimes you have to unlearn the entire cycle that taught you to stay.

The final chorus is where the pattern finally breaks: “No more cycle, no more spin. I'm not letting you pull me in.” I can't change what happened inside the cycle. But I can decide it ends with me. And that's what “The Cycle” ultimately is about, not the person who kept pulling me back in, but the moment I finally stopped going around.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
