VERSE 1 I learned love like a full-time job Giving more than I ever got Oldest daughter, overachiever Smile outside while my body got weaker Every room I walked into I became what they needed me to Strong enough to hold the weight Quiet enough to tolerate And nobody saw What it cost me to survive How many versions of myself I buried just to stay alive

PRE-CHORUS Every time somebody pulled away My nervous system memorized the pain Every “almost,” every goodbye Turned into cortisol at night

CHORUS I spent my whole life trying to be chosen Loving with open hands while my heart stayed broken Performing for love, praying I’d finally be enough But the ache never left my blood Now I know The wound was never proof that I was unworthy It was proof I loved deeply And maybe the war wasn’t against me Maybe Heaven still had purpose for me

VERSE 2 It wasn’t one moment that broke me down It was the thousand little letdowns Friends who stayed halfway in People who loved me conditionally again I kept thinking “This next thing will finally make me matter” Another achievement While my nervous system shattered So I got louder with success And quieter with my sadness Until exhaustion became my personality And survival became my habit

PRE-CHORUS Every text left unanswered burned Every cold goodbye returned My body learned to fear disconnection Like love was something I had to earn

BRIDGE You chose me before I could prove myself Before I carried everyone else Before the fear Before the shame Before I learned to beg love to stay And suddenly my body breathed Like my soul remembered peace Not because the pain disappeared But because I stopped believing I had to earn being seen

FINAL CHORUS I’m done spending my life trying to be chosen I was worthy before my heart was broken And all this time I called it weakness But maybe loving deeply was the gift So if you’re exhausted If your body’s keeping score If you’ve been pouring from an empty soul Trying to earn a love you should’ve never had to fight for I see you Cause I was you And healing started When I finally believed I was already chosen too.

Already Chosen

“Already Chosen” is about realizing how much of my life I spent trying to earn something I was never supposed to have to earn in the first place: the feeling of being chosen. I wrote this song because that pattern existed long before any one relationship. I learned to be useful. Accommodating. Successful. Strong. The person who could handle everything. I became good at figuring out what other people needed from me and becoming that version of myself. And somewhere along the way, achievement and love became tangled together. If I could be good enough, helpful enough, successful enough, understanding enough, maybe people would stay.

The line, “Every room I walked into, I became what they needed me to,” is one of the most personal parts of this song because it describes a survival pattern I didn't recognize as a survival pattern for a long time. I thought I was simply loving people well. Sometimes I was. But sometimes I was abandoning myself to prevent abandonment from someone else. That's why this song isn't really about heartbreak. It's about the wound underneath so many of my heartbreaks. The need to be chosen. Every rejection, unanswered message, friendship that faded, relationship that ended, or person who couldn't meet me emotionally seemed to reinforce the same belief: Try harder. Become more. Give more. Then maybe you'll finally be enough. And my body carried all of it.

The bridge is where the entire meaning changes. “You chose me before I could prove myself.” For me, that's God. My faith gave me a completely different answer to the question I'd spent my life asking. My worth wasn't waiting at the end of another achievement or inside somebody else's decision to stay. I was already loved. Already seen. Already known. Already chosen. And that doesn't magically erase trauma or make my nervous system forget everything it learned. The song specifically says, “Not because the pain disappeared, but because I stopped believing I had to earn being seen.” That's what healing looks like for me.

The final chorus also turns outward because I wanted this song to reach the person who's exhausted from performing for love. The person whose body is keeping score. The person pouring from an empty place because they believe being needed is the closest they'll ever get to being loved. I know that person because I've been her. And this song is what I wish I could tell her: You don't have to exhaust yourself proving that you're worthy of being chosen. You were worthy before anybody stayed. You were worthy after they left. And you were never forgotten by God in between.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
