Emotional question
What if them not choosing me is the reason I finally learn to choose myself?
What you may need to hear

Someone else’s indecision doesn’t determine your worth. You don’t have to keep waiting for clarity from someone who repeatedly leaves you in “maybe.” Choosing yourself isn’t spite.

Verse 1 You said you needed space, said you didn’t know Pulled away slow like I wouldn’t notice it go But every time I stepped back, you’d pull me close Like you wanted me there, just not enough to choose You kept me in reach, but never in place Close enough to feel, far enough to replace And I stayed patient, thought you were just scared Didn’t know indecision was you not being there

Pre-Chorus You didn’t lose me overnight You lost me in the maybe In every moment you held back Instead of choosing me

Chorus You couldn’t choose me, so I chose myself Now you’re calling it spite like it’s something else Say I moved on just to make you feel small But you walked away first, I just answered the call You call it distance, I call it truth You didn’t pick me, I outgrew you And now your ego’s the only thing bruised ’Cause I didn’t wait around for you to choose

Verse 2 You loved me in a careful way Like I was something you could lose Not enough to let me go Not enough to really choose You held me just to keep me close But never close enough to stay I learned to live inside the space Of almost every day You watched me move on like it was a game Turned it into something just to soften the blame Said I was petty, said I did it to hurt you But I was just doing what you couldn’t do You had your chance, you just let it sit While I held space for something real in it Now you’re rewriting what you couldn’t face Calling me wrong just to save your place

Pre-Chorus I was trying to hold you You were trying to feel less You needed me close Just not enough to commit to us

Bridge I wasn’t hard to love, you were hard to decide Wanted all of me without picking a side And when I stopped waiting, you started to see It was never too much, just too real to keep

Final Chorus You couldn’t choose me… so I chose myself Now you’re left with the space you created yourself You call it distance, I call it truth You didn’t pick me, I outgrew you

Outro You didn’t lose me all at once You lost me every time you didn’t choose

Couldn't Choose Me

For when you stop waiting for someone to choose you and finally make the choice for yourself.

Couldn't Choose Me

“You Couldn’t Choose Me” is about the moment I stopped waiting for someone else to make a decision about my worth and finally made one for myself. I wrote this song about living in the exhausting space between being wanted and being chosen. He didn't completely let me go, but he didn't fully step toward me either. Whenever I created distance, there seemed to be just enough closeness to keep the connection alive. And because I cared about him, I interpreted that hesitation as fear. I thought patience would eventually turn uncertainty into commitment. But eventually I realized that indecision is still information.

The line, “You didn't lose me overnight. You lost me in the maybe,” became the heart of this song. Because there wasn't one dramatic moment when everything ended. It happened every time I wasn't chosen. Every time I accepted almost. Every time I waited for clarity that never came. Every time I stayed inside a gray area because I believed someone's potential mattered more than what they were actually giving me. Then something changed. I stopped waiting. And when I finally moved forward, my decision was interpreted as spite, as though choosing a life outside of the uncertainty was somehow something I had done to him. But moving on wasn't revenge. It was acceptance.

That's why “You couldn't choose me, so I chose myself” matters so much to me. I didn't choose myself because I stopped caring. I chose myself because caring about someone shouldn't require putting my own life on hold while they decide whether I'm worth building one with.

The bridge says it simply: “I wasn't hard to love, you were hard to decide.” I don't need someone to choose me because they're afraid of losing me. I want someone who chooses me because they're certain they want to build something with me. And if someone can't make that choice, I don't have to remain suspended inside their uncertainty.

The outro is the closure: “You didn't lose me all at once. You lost me every time you didn't choose.” Eventually, enough almosts become an answer. And this time, I listened.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
