For when you realize you weren’t holding onto the relationship as much as you were holding onto the hope that being chosen would finally make you feel worthy.

Emotional question
Was I really in love with them, or was I in love with finally feeling chosen?
What you may need to hear

Sometimes the desire to be chosen can keep us invested in relationships that aren't actually meeting us. Recognizing that doesn't make your feelings fake. It can help you separate your worth from whether one particular person was capable of choosing you well.

Featured lyric

I stayed when I should’ve walked away Silenced the voice that begged me not to stay Painted red flags like they were part of the sky Called your scraps a feast and believed my own lie

I thought if I held on, love would win I made excuses just to let you back in But love isn’t supposed to hurt this way And peace shouldn’t feel so far away

[Pre-Chorus] You didn’t break me, I bent till I cracked Kept choosing you, no matter what I lacked You never picked me, but I kept hoping You’d see me as more than something broken

[Chorus] But I wasn’t in love with you I was in love with being chosen I was chasing a ghost of proof That someone could love me wide open And your silence was still louder Than the love I begged you for Crumbs and red flags, that’s all I adored But I know better now, I won’t do that anymore

[Verse 2] Deep down, I was still that little girl Waiting for someone to make me their world To say “you’re enough, I’m not going anywhere” But you just left me hanging in the thin air

I called the bare minimum “effort” Turned neglect into something that felt worth it Even your scraps were sweeter than the silence I knew But I deserve more, I finally do

[Pre-Chorus] You didn’t see me, but I see it now That love isn’t pain I should have to allow And I won’t keep shrinking just to fit in To someone else’s version of "almost" again

[Chorus] ‘Cause I wasn’t in love with you I was in love with being chosen I was clinging to the hope That someday you’d leave your door open But you made me feel like too much Just for needing something more Crumbs and red flags, I called them love before But I know better now, I’m not staying at that door

[Bridge] Maybe love’s not about who holds on the longest But who’s willing to hold you back the strongest I gave my all to be seen You gave just enough to keep me in between

[Final Chorus ] No, I wasn’t in love with you I was in love with feeling worthy But now I see through the view That love shouldn’t make you feel dirty I’m not asking for too much Just what I’m worthy of and more No more crumbs or red flags, I’ve closed that door I know better now, so I’m choosing me for sure

Crumbs and Red Flags

For when you realize you weren’t holding onto the relationship as much as you were holding onto the hope that being chosen would finally make you feel worthy.

Crumbs and Red Flags

Crumbs and Red Flags is about realizing I wasn’t holding onto the relationship because it was giving me what I needed. I was holding onto the hope of finally being chosen.

For a long time, I accepted small pieces of attention and called them enough. I explained away red flags, made excuses for inconsistency, and kept believing that if I loved hard enough, eventually I would become important enough for someone to choose completely. The hardest realization was that underneath all of that hope was an older wound. I wasn’t only chasing him. I was chasing proof that I was worthy of being wanted, kept, and chosen.

That’s why the line “I wasn’t in love with you, I was in love with being chosen” became the heart of this song. Healing meant realizing I didn’t need someone else’s choice to prove my worth. I could stop accepting crumbs, stop romanticizing red flags, and choose myself instead. This song is about the moment being chosen stopped mattering more than being treated well.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
