"Easy Out" is about the pain of realizing someone had every opportunity to leave honestly but instead chose to keep you hoping.
I wrote this song because there were so many moments where I could feel something had changed. I wasn't imagining it. I could see the distance. I could feel the hesitation. I noticed the little things that didn't add up. Instead of pretending everything was fine, I kept asking the hard questions. I gave him every chance to be honest. I told him that if his heart wasn't in it anymore, we could end things with kindness. We could walk away before we hurt each other more. I even told him we could just be friends if that's what he wanted. I wasn't trying to trap him. I was trying to set us both free. But every time I opened the door, he closed it. He told me he loved me. He told me he wanted to stay. He promised we'd work through it. He reassured me enough to keep believing that what I was feeling wasn't the full story. So I stayed.
Looking back, I realize the hardest part wasn't that he had doubts. We all have doubts sometimes. The hardest part was that he knew I was fighting for us while he was quietly pulling away and instead of telling me the truth, he kept giving me just enough hope to hold on.
This song isn't about blaming someone for falling out of love. It's about asking why they couldn't be honest when I made honesty safe. One of the most painful lessons I learned is that false reassurance can hurt just as much as rejection. Sometimes the deepest betrayal isn't someone leaving it's someone convincing you they're staying while their heart has already gone.
I wrote "Easy Out" for anyone who's ever looked back and realized they weren't asking someone to stay. They were begging someone to tell the truth. Because if someone no longer wants to choose you, the kindest thing they can do isn't stay. It's leave honestly.
