What Kind Of Man Does That?

For the part of you left questioning reality after someone knowingly let you make choices without the truth.

A gentle map of what this song holds ♡

Emotional question
How do I trust my memories again when someone let me make decisions without the whole truth?
What you may need to hear

You weren’t wrong for making choices based on the reality you were given. When someone withholds information they know would change your decision, the confusion afterward can make you question everything. You’re allowed to trust what you know now. You deserved the truth so you could make your own choice. Trusting someone who withheld it doesn’t mean you failed to see clearly.

Featured lyric
“You didn’t just break my heart You broke my trust in what was real”
From the song story

For when the betrayal wasn’t only what they hid. It was knowing the truth would’ve changed your choice, and hiding it anyway.

Verse 1

Tell me what kind of man comes back To a woman he’s already left What kind of man knocks on that door Knowing somebody else is waiting for him instead What kind of man says all the right things Lets her think there’s still a chance Lets her open up old wounds again While hiding another set of hands

You sat on my couch You slept in my bed You looked me in the eyes And listened to everything I said Knowing damn well There was a truth you weren’t telling me

Pre-Chorus

And I would’ve walked away That’s the part that eats you alive Because if I knew what you knew You never would’ve gotten access to my life

Chorus

What kind of man does that? What kind of man comes back for comfort When he’s already giving commitment somewhere else? What kind of man takes love from one woman While building a future with another? What kind of man lets somebody believe They’re rebuilding something real When he already knows He’s not staying? Tell me What kind of man does that?

Verse 2

You didn’t choose her the day you left You chose her while you were still here That’s why every memory feels dirty now Every answer sounds insincere Because while I was trying to figure us out You were figuring out how to keep us both One for comfort One for commitment One for today One for tomorrow And somehow you convinced yourself That made you a good person

Pre-Chorus

I told you where my boundary was I said it plain as day If there was somebody else I wasn’t staying You knew that And kept showing up anyway

Chorus

What kind of man does that? What kind of man sleeps beside someone Who’s making decisions based on lies? What kind of man watches somebody trust him And says nothing? What kind of man takes the parts of a relationship he wants The affection The attention The loyalty The body The comfort And then disappears When accountability finally arrives?

Bridge

And maybe the sickest part Wasn’t even choosing her Maybe the sickest part Was how you ended it Because you didn’t sit down and tell me the truth You didn’t respect me enough for that You didn’t call You didn’t explain You didn’t apologize You just vanished Because she found out And suddenly I wasn’t allowed access anymore Do you know how twisted that feels? To realize someone can be in your house one day And erase you the next Not because they stopped caring But because they got caught

Final Chorus

What kind of man does that? What kind of man rewrites somebody’s reality Then leaves them alone to sort through the wreckage? What kind of man comes back Pretends to love Pretends to care Pretends to rebuild While knowing the whole thing has an expiration date? You didn’t just break my heart You broke my trust in what was real You made me question memories Question conversations Question my own instincts And that’s not love That’s not kindness That’s not confusion That’s not a mistake That’s a choice Made over and over and over again Every time you walked through my door Knowing what you weren’t telling me

Outro

I used to wonder why you came back Now I wonder something else How do you look in the mirror And live with yourself?

What Kind Of Man Does That?

For the part of you left questioning reality after someone knowingly let you make choices without the truth.

What Kind Of Man Does That?

"What Kind of Man Does That?" is about the kind of betrayal that doesn't happen in a single moment, it happens every time someone chooses deception over honesty. This song isn't about losing someone to another relationship. It's about discovering that while you were trying to rebuild trust, they already knew they were building a future somewhere else.

I wrote this song after realizing the hardest part wasn't that he chose someone else. It was that he came back anyway. He sat in my home, listened to my heart, accepted my trust, my vulnerability, my affection, and my hope, all while knowing there was a truth that would've changed every decision I made. If he had been honest, I would've walked away. He knew that.

Instead, he took away my ability to make an informed choice. That's what this song is asking. What kind of person knowingly accepts someone's love while hiding information that would make them leave? The betrayal wasn't just the relationship. It was the manipulation of my reality. After everything ended, I found myself questioning memories, conversations, and even my own intuition. Looking back, I realized I wasn't grieving the relationship as much as I was grieving the trust I'd lost in my own perception.

This song is about reclaiming that trust. It's about recognizing that honesty isn't optional in love. People make mistakes. Relationships end. But everyone deserves the dignity of making decisions based on the truth. At the end of the day, the question isn't really for him. It's one I no longer need answered. Because his choices already answered it.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
