Dear Drew ( I Would Have Left )

For when you realize you weren’t begging them to stay, you were giving them every chance to tell you the truth so you could leave.

Emotional question
Would I have stayed if they had actually told me the truth?
What you may need to hear

Believing someone’s reassurance doesn’t mean you ignored the truth. You noticed the distance, asked questions, and even gave them permission to leave. You were making decisions based on what they continued telling you.

Featured lyric
“I wasn’t begging you to stay, I was begging you to be real”
From the song story

For when you look back and realize you weren’t fighting to keep someone who wanted to leave. You were asking them to be honest enough to let you make that choice too.

Verse 1 Dear Drew, I think I need to say this once So I can finally breathe again What hurts the most isn’t the ending It’s how the truth looks looking back on it I tried to tell you what I was sensing Something between us wasn’t right But every time I named the distance You turned it back on me that night I even said we could end it gently Said we could just be friends instead But every door I left wide open You closed it with the words you said

Pre-Chorus I gave you every easy out Every door to leave But you chose reassurance Instead of honesty

Chorus Dear Drew, I would’ve left If you were honest I would’ve saved my heart From trying to solve this I wasn’t begging you to stay I was begging you be real But you gave me reassurance You didn’t even feel Dear Drew, that’s the part That broke me in two You say it was hard for you But here’s the part you missed It’s easy hiding from the truth It’s harder living in it

Verse 2 You looked up girls like history Still had their shadow in your mind Sent heart eyes to someone random While I was fighting for our time I saw the girls you entertained The ex you kept inside your past I watched the distance grow between us While you kept saying we would last Every time I tried to leave you You said you wanted us to try So I stayed inside a promise That was already a lie

Pre-Chorus My body knew the truth already But I believed in you

Chorus Dear Drew, I would’ve left If you had told the truth I would’ve saved my heart From trying to save you I wasn’t asking you to love me I was asking you be real But you gave me reassurance You didn’t actually feel

Bridge You say it was hard for you Hard to take the blame Hard to say the doubts out loud Hard to name the shame But I was sick from holding onto Something breaking in my chest Trying to fix a love You had already left

Final Chorus Dear Drew, I see it now What I couldn’t see You kept me there in limbo For your own security I would’ve left If you told the truth Instead you let me keep believing you When I started moving on You came back like before Late night love and empty words Knocking on my door But that wasn’t love or friendship That was convenience too Dear Drew I would’ve left If you told the truth Dear Drew… Why did you let me believe in you?

Dear Drew ( I Would Have Left )

"Dear Drew" is about the kind of heartbreak that could have been so much smaller if honesty had come sooner. This isn't a song about someone falling out of love. It's about what happens when someone already knows they're emotionally leaving but continues reassuring the person who's still fighting to stay.

I wrote this song because I realized the deepest pain wasn't that the relationship ended. It was that I kept asking the right questions and was given the wrong answers. I could feel the distance. I noticed the changes. I offered countless opportunities for honesty. I even said we could end things peacefully if that was what he wanted. I wasn't asking him to stay. I was asking him to tell me the truth.

The line, "Dear Drew, I would've left if you told the truth " became the heart of this song. Because I would've. If he had been honest, I would've grieved the relationship much sooner. Instead, every reassurance pulled me deeper into a future he had already stopped believing in. That's what hurt. Not that he had doubts. But that he hid them while asking me to keep believing.

This song isn't about blaming someone for falling out of love. People's feelings change. Relationships end. What changed me was realizing someone can know they're leaving while still asking you to stay emotionally invested. Looking back, I don't regret believing in the relationship. I regret believing words that didn't match reality. The ending isn't asking why he stopped loving me. It's asking why he kept giving me hope after he already knew he was gone. Because heartbreak is painful. But false hope makes heartbreak last much longer than it ever had to.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
