Emotional question
Did I keep choosing unavailable people because their distance made intimacy feel safer?
What you may need to hear

Sometimes distance protects us from the very vulnerability we think we’re chasing. Loving someone unavailable can feel safer because their limits keep us from having to risk being fully seen, fully dependent, or fully known. Recognizing that pattern gives you the chance to choose differently.

Featured lyric
“Maybe I didn’t fall for you, Maybe I fell for the distance”
From the song story

For when you realize their unavailability wasn’t only hurting you. Part of you may have felt safer knowing they could never get close enough to see everything.

VERSE 1 There’s a comfort in the half-love, in the space you always kept. ’Cause if you never opened fully, I never had to give my best. I could love you from a distance, pour my heart in measured drops. You were safe because you’d vanish long before you ever got close enough to see the parts of me that never learned how to be held Close enough to read the secrets
that I never said out loud.

Up close I lose my balance, my chest gets tight, my body sways. I’m not scared of you, I’m scared of everything closeness activates.

PRE-CHORUS Everyone thought I was breaking for choosing someone like you. But loving you was easy ’cause I never had to choose between being wanted and being real.

CHORUS It’s easier to love you from far away, where you can’t touch the places that ache. Where I don’t risk the “all of me” you never stayed long enough to take. You were the perfect almost just real enough to make me stay, but distant enough to let me hide behind the parts I pushed away. Yeah, it’s easier to love you from far away… from far away.

VERSE 2 You lingered just enough to keep me hoping, but not enough to ever stay. And I kept shrinking pieces of myself, thinking maybe then you wouldn’t stray. People said I deserved better but “better” feels like danger when you’ve always been the strong one, always been the safe one, never been the one allowed to be soft without a consequence.

So when you moved a little closer, my heart mistook it for a threat. Every inch you leaned toward me woke the wounds I hadn’t met. I love you in the quiet, in the space where I feel brave I love you from a distance where my heart feels less afraid.

PRE-CHORUS You weren’t my failure you were the pattern I repeated. ’Cause consistency felt dangerous and closeness felt like bleeding.

CHORUS It’s easier to love you from far away, where my heart can’t fracture in your hands. Where your silence felt familiar like the childhood I outgrew but never fully left behind. You were the perfect almost not enough to ever stay, but enough to let me disappear behind the wounds I still obey. Yeah, it’s easier to love you from far away… from far away.

BRIDGE Maybe I didn’t fall for you maybe I fell for the distance. For the safety of someone who’d never ask for my full existence. For the echo of a story where I always had to be strong, and where loving someone fully always somehow felt wrong.

If loving you didn’t feel like leaping, I’d finally let myself stay but until my body trusts connection, I’ll love you best from far away.

FINAL CHORUS It’s easier to love you from far away, where I don’t owe my soul to staying. Where the threat of real connection never asks for what I’m afraid of giving. You were the perfect almost and maybe that’s what kept me safe. ’Cause loving someone unavailable means I never risked my real face. Yeah, it’s easier to love you from far away… But I’m done loving from far away.

OUTRO One day I’ll choose someone who doesn’t run or hide. And I’ll let them see the parts of me you only ever stood beside. The parts you never knew, never held, never loved like I deserved.

Easier To Love You From Far Away

For when you realize loving someone unavailable felt safer because their distance meant you never had to risk being fully known.

Easier To Love You From Far Away

“Easier To Love You From Far Away” is about realizing that I wasn't only attracted to emotionally unavailable people because they were afraid of intimacy. Part of me was afraid of it too. For a long time, I thought I was always the person fighting for closeness. I was the one communicating, trying to repair things, asking for reassurance, and wanting deeper connection. So it was easy to believe that I wanted intimacy and simply kept choosing people who couldn't give it to me. But healing made me look deeper.

The line, “Maybe I didn't fall for you, maybe I fell for the distance,” became the heart of this song. Because there was something strangely safe about loving someone unavailable. I could crave closeness without ever having to fully experience it. I could pour enormous amounts of love into someone who kept one foot out the door while still protecting the most vulnerable parts of myself. His distance hurt me, but it also guaranteed that I would never have to find out what happened if someone actually stayed long enough to see all of me. That's a difficult thing to admit. I had spent so much time wondering why I kept choosing people who couldn't meet me emotionally that I hadn't considered what those relationships were protecting me from. Real intimacy means being seen. Not the strong version of me. Not the helpful one. Not the version who understands everyone else's wounds. All of me. And when you've learned that vulnerability can come with consequences, healthy closeness can sometimes feel more threatening to your nervous system than familiar distance.

That's why the lyric “better feels like danger” matters so much. Sometimes we consciously want healthy love while our bodies still associate it with risk. An unavailable person gives you somewhere to put all that love without requiring you to surrender the protection you've spent years building. You can chase intimacy forever without ever actually arriving there. And that's why this isn't really a song about him. It's about me recognizing my side of the pattern. He was unavailable. But his unavailability allowed me to remain partially unavailable too.

The final line changes everything: “But I'm done loving from far away.” I don't want another almost. I don't want chemistry that depends on distance. I don't want to feel safest with people who can never fully have me. I want to teach my body that being known doesn't have to mean being hurt. And one day, I want to choose someone who stays, and be brave enough to stay too.

You don’t have to carry it alone.
